Restoring the health of the prairie and ourselves simultaneously
Protecting wild nature is a matter of public health. We also have a moral imperative to take care of the animals, the planet, and young people. GPRC’s award-winning Plains Youth InterACTION program helps young people take care of their own health through taking care of their special places on Earth.

We need your help. GPRC has so far protected two major preserves on the Prairies and Plains of America: 4,600 acres (“Oglala Prairie Preserve”) adjacent to Badlands National Park in South Dakota and 2,000 acres (“Fort Worth Prairie Park”) of critically endangered, globally imperiled urban tallgrass prairie wilderness in Fort Worth, TX. These all need restoration work and additional protections, as well as to be expanded larger to ensure longest-term conservation value.
GPRC also runs Plains Youth InterACTION in two states – inner city Fort Worth, Texas and on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota.
Ecological Health: The Interdependent Health of Humans,
Animals and Ecosystems.
Great Plains Restoration Council is a founder of the Ecological Health movement. For the public, protecting wild nature in the 21st Century means new Green Jobs & job training, wild ecosystems & open space, endangered wildlife protection (especially the return of the buffalo and prairie dogs), youth crisis intervention & leadership development, carbon sequestration, clean air & water, trauma & illness recovery, anti-poverty, anti-violence, and ex-incarceration efforts, and deep health & wellness for all people. All of this infuses the heart and soul of GPRC’s Ecological Health movement.
Now, with your help, we can expand these protected areas to ensure wildlife and ecosystems are strong enough to withstand climate change and other threats.
Now, with your help, our Plains Youth InterACTION program can expand to develop increasing numbers of youth leaders ready to solve health and environmental problems proactively.
Out here on the Great Plains, our ecological devastation mirrors our social devastation.
Through GPRC’s prairie wilderness recovery projects, Plains Youth InterACTION program, and hands-on educational and work opportunities, we offer the world a 21st Century survival and sustainability blueprint as our work grows in “Serving our Youth, Protecting our Prairie Earth.”
